It was the beginning of April (Fiesta Month) and my brother had asked me if I wanted to do the Fiesta Fandango Run with him and I was a little hesitant about my answer because it would be my first time running with him (he’s a super fast runner) and it would be in front of anyone and everyone in San Antonio. Lol. Well my answer was yes. So when April 27, 2013 came around I was nervous as hell. My mind was racing, I was thinking to myself what if I can’t keep up, what if I fall, what if I twist my ankle and so on. There were so many “what-ifs” going through my head it was unbelievable and this was all happening while I was at my brother’s house waiting to head downtown for our run.
So next we’re all hopping in the truck and heading towards downtown and oh my goodness there was so much traffic that my brother and I got dropped off on Grayson St. and walked towards the starting line. Once we got there I was amazed to see all the people that were there for the Fandango Run, it was truly an awesome sight! There were people in cool costumes, kick ass military folk and so much more! What also gave me an overwhelming feeling of happiness was seeing them all sporting the Boston race bibs!! That was an super awesome thing to see! I think I even teared up a bit!! ♡
It was around 6:00 p.m. and we still had 40 minutes until the run started so we decide to walk around and see all the cool costumes and take pictures. Lol. Next thing I know I’m running into a fellow runner and Facebook friend there. Which was totally cool! Then it was 15 minutes until it started and my nerves were still a mess and my brother turns to me and tells me “I hope you know that I’m not leaving you behind.” (even though I would be okay if he did) and I said okay! Then came the countdown and we were off. And as I’m running I see all these people passing me, hauling ass and there’s my big brother by my side coaching me through it all, telling me to pace myself, it’s all mental, walking with me when I’d stop and saying there’s a water station up ahead. Haha. What really got me too was the crowd of people cheering us on and the little kiddos standing on the streets with their hands out for Hi-5′s, I even heard someone yell out “way to go Gloria!” I turned around and threw peace signs! Haha! Oh man! It wasn’t until later that I found out who it was. But it felt good hearing that.
So now we were on the home stretch and this man came up to me shook my hand and said “you’re almost there and you can do it!” I smiled and said thank you even though I was out of breath. Then I put my head back into the run and kept on going. Then boom we were crossing that finish line! My brother said “You did it!!” I was tired and happy at the same time! Lol. Running the Fandango was an amazing experience, lot’s of fun and I met all sorts of awesome people. Plus running it with my big brother is a great memory I will never forget. He stuck right by my slow ass! Haha! I Love My Big Brother!! Happy Running My Friends!! :)
